How to Remove Adware and Pop-Ups from Windows
Adware is the most common thing people call a virus. It arrives bundled with free software, monetises your browsing, and hides in three places at once: installed programs, browser extensions and browser policies.

Confirm it is adware, not a website notification
If pop-ups appear only while a browser is open, check site notification permissions first — many 'infections' are just a site you allowed to send notifications. Revoke them in the browser's notification settings.
Uninstall the bundled program
Open Installed apps, sort by install date, and remove anything added around the time symptoms started. Optimisers, coupon helpers, driver updaters and download managers are the usual carriers.
Clear extensions and enforced policies
Remove unknown browser extensions. If an extension cannot be removed and shows as installed by your organisation, an enforced policy is holding it in place; clearing it requires removing the policy entry, then resetting the browser.
Reset search engine, homepage and shortcuts
Reset search and startup pages, then check each browser shortcut's target for an appended URL — a classic adware trick that survives every reset because it lives in the shortcut, not the browser.
Scan with an on-demand cleaner
Run a free on-demand scanner tuned for potentially unwanted programs. Classic antivirus engines routinely leave adware alone by design, so a clean antivirus scan does not mean the machine is adware-free.

Download software only from developer sites, choose custom installation to reveal bundled offers, and be suspicious of anything advertised through a search advertisement rather than an organic result.
